Note: For your first campout, just bring as much of the following equipment as you already own or can borrow.  You will need a sleeping bag and a closed-cell foam camp sleeping mat right away, but try not to buy any other new equipment until you have been on a couple campouts and had a chance to talk to your Scoutmaster about what to buy.

Troop 2 has a well stocked camping trailer that is taken to all of our outdoor events.  Tents, cookware, dining fly, and cook stoves are provided by the troop.  The list below is a basic list of items that you should consider to bring on a campout.  Extra socks and shoes are very important.  Please refrain from bringing excessive snacks and food, beverages, etc.  Scouts will always have drinks available provided by the troop.  Troop 2 prides itself on making sure that all Scouts enjoy a diversity of food and have plenty to eat!

____ BACKPACK (and/or large Sports Equipment Bag, and/or Duffel Bag).

____ SLEEPING BAG (should be a decent sleeping bag rated for weather conditions.  Winter bag should be rated at least for 10 degree camping conditions.  Lighter, less expensive bags will suffice for warm camping/summer camp)

____ CLOSED-CELL FOAM CAMP SLEEPING PAD (inexpensive, roll-up type in Walmart's camping section).

____ RAINCOAT or poncho (ALWAYS  bring some type of wet weather gear when you go camping)

____ WARM JACKET or hoodies (for night).

____ EXTRA PAIR PANTS & shoes

____ SWEATER, or SWEATSHIRT

____ UNDERWEAR with plenty of extra socks

____ WARM HAT (to wear at night when you sleep)

____  BOWL, CUP, FORK, SPOON, PLATE -- (plastic keeps food warmer than metal - anything inexpensive will work).

____ ONE-QUART WATER BOTTLE, filled ("Nalgene" Bottles are the most dependable).

____ FLASHLIGHT & EXTRA BATTERIES, (headband style keeps hands free)

____ SMALL FIRST AID KIT (You can make your own: look in BSA Handbook).

____ CLEAN-UP KIT (Small Hand Soap, Toothpaste, Toothbrush, Comb, Floss, Fast-Drying Camp Towel).

____ TOILET PAPER (pack in a Zip-Lock bag).

____ No Electronics   - Scouts are discouraged from bringing electronic devices to campouts (including cellphones).  These items are easily lost, damaged, etc.  There are plenty of activities to keep the scouts busy.

Always pack for one season COLDER than now and ALWAYS bring raingear!
